Horley Town vs RPV

Horley Town 2-1 Raynes Park Vale - 22 January 2022.

Thanks to Horley as they quickly arranged this fixture after our Saturday 8th home game was waterlogged. This was Vale’s first competitive game for 31 days since the Vase away victory at Crawley Down on December 11th. Four and a half weeks! Ages between matches with

gaffer Gallagher well aware that his team needs games to keep fresh & avoid a fixture pile-up. There was the friendly at Walton Casuals on the 4th but this was a real deal league game with Vale aiming to keep in touch with the top of table teams.

Unleashes a stinger

1st Half A lively start from both sides. Horley had the ball in the net but George Membrillera was ruled offside on 4 minutes. Horley’s Roberts hits the bar with a soft looping header on 17 mins. Vale in home colours had a great chance on 20

minutes when Brad Sweeney turned and volleyed from close range but the ball sailed over the bar. Brad would normally

bury 9 times out of 10. Jordan Gallagher has a good shot on 44 mins when he cuts in from the left and unleashes a stinger from 20 yards out that is well saved by Horley's George Hyde.

Vale ‘keeper Billy Bishop had a great half and on 34 minutes brings out a triple save in one Horley salvo and the Vale defence eventually clear. Billy is kept twice as busy in this game than normal as Horley shade the first half as the teams go nil -nil.

Davies beats the Horley defender

2nd Half We had enough chances to win this game.

Billy Bishop saves at full stretch on 62 mins. Then the half takes off: 67 mins RPV nearly take the lead when Nes Can Bellikli’s clipped chip cross from left edge clears ‘keeper Hyde on its way to the far post. Cal Davies beats the Horley defender to the header on the line but somehow the ball fails to make it into the back of the onion bag.

71 mins: Great Louie Downey header hits the right post from 7 yards out. Horley then go up the other end and hit our post.

73 mins: Nes is sin binned and Vale are down to 10 men for 10 minutes.

76 mins: 1-0 to Horley

76 mins. Foul on Quintyne who gets up to score the penalty to the left side.

81 mins: Raynes Park top scorer Jordan

Gallagher misses a penalty putting the ball just wide of the left post.

84 mins 1-1: RPVs Louie Downey equalises from close range on 84 minutes. Sub Ben Harrison gets the assist with a header back across from a Gallagher free kick

92 mins: 2-1 As Vale push for the win. Goulter finishes well for Horley. Still Vale push on.

93 mins: Vale push for another equaliser.

Seanan McKillop blasts a fiercely struck goal bound stinging volley from 9 yards out but its well saved by Hyde. An exciting game that could’ve gone either way.
